  • Homemade Insulation?

I did something dumb. I bought two big bags of perlite (expensive) and use 100% of it insulating beneath the hearth and around the dome, leaving nothing to fill the space inside the door. The huge bags are my only choice here in northern Thailand.

Any suggestions. Obviously, I only need a small quantity of insulation.

To translate what Brickie said: You did nothing wrong, it should work out just fine! In his estimation you should get more.

Vermiculite is an equivalent substitute. You maybe able to buy smaller quantities of either from plant nurseries.

The FB doors are nothing more than 1/4 inch steel plate. It's not the end of the world if your door is not insulated.

Another bag is 50 bucks. The nurseries don't have vermiculite. (Thailand)

            Oh well.

              Gudday
Don't they use rice husk ash as an kiln insulation in a lot of countries?

                  Re: Homemade Insulation?

Eulogy.com in Thailand has ceramic board and insulation. If you can wait a month or so I am sure I will have enough left over for your door. I am near Pattaya and can send it to you. BTW, I ordered last Monday and it arrives this Monday, my build won't be finished much before Songkran and I can send then.

                  PM me.
