Re: "De La Capra" oven build
Cooked pizza last night for some guests that came over, bread this morning at 550 degrees, and the oven was still 430 degrees tonight, so we threw in a few birds. Tomorrow we'll continue cooking something else....1 Photo

Progress continues.....got the lights in place, need to fill the crevices with mortar and caulk them in. Hopefully if it doesn't rain this weekend I can get the transformer in place and everything connected.3 Photos

Re: "De La Capra" oven build
Yesterday we cooked pizza and closed her down around 8pm or so. At 330pm this afternoon, the oven was right at 450, so we decided to throw a few loaves of bread in. Temps here in NC today were in the 30's to 40's.
Most times, next morning the temp is right at 375-500 somewhere. Not sure why I get such a discrepancy. Firing times tend to be around the same, 2-3 hrs.

Closer and closer we come.....just a few more pieces left. LV lighting is in place, just need to run the wire and hook it up.1 Photo

Re: "De La Capra" oven build
Finally was able to get out to the stone center and replace the stone veneer with the correct style. I included a picture of the 2 styles to show the difference, one has straight sides, the other is irregular and meant to be grouted. Here is what we have left to do....
And finally, received a wonderful christmas present from the wife, a sign to go with our oven. Now just need to find a place to hang it!
Also still need to finish the LV lighting...3 Photos

Re: "De La Capra" oven build
Sorry guys, I forgot to mention that in order to get it to match as well as we did, we had to grind the top and bottom of each piece of veneer to remove the irregular edges and closely stack them. It will be too much work to have to do that to every single piece of stone.
A picture is worth a thousand words, here is the link to the canyon ledge stone we have been using, and the country ledge that we got this last time. Hopefully, that shows the difference a little better.

I can only wish my stone work will look this irregular...............your guests will be more interested in what is cooking in the oven!

It is finely balanced. Not sure what the issue is. There is an argument to be made about form and function I suppose. It looks good to me.

It's pretty subtle. It looks good, why return the product?

Re: "De La Capra" oven build
Can't believe that after 3+ weeks of work, finally got around to putting in the remaining stone veneer that I picked up a while ago....only to realize that they gave me the wrong stye stone! Same color, just not the stacked stone. This had a more irregular border. We were able to work with it and finish the side of the wood fired oven, but will be returning the rest this week. Sets me back another 2 weeks or so before I can continue work.
Can you tell the difference in the top and bottom stone here?

Re: "De La Capra" oven build
Made a smoked mac and cheese side dish from a recipe on the Kamado Joe youtube page. Smoked with apple and pecan wood, this was epic. Best mac and cheese I ever had.
Hopefully the weather gets better this weekend so we can continue stone veneer work.2 Photos

Re: "De La Capra" oven build
Here's a fairly recent picture. We now have the Kamado Joe in place, but need to work on getting it set a little lower. Hopefully will be nice this weekend and I'll be able to do that and take an update picture.1 Photo

Re: "De La Capra" oven build
We've not had the time or weather to continue work on the stone veneer, but we have had time to fire it up and make some pizza on a few occasions! Have had 3 different people tell me this is the best pizza they've ever had. I don't disagree!5 Photos
