  • Chimney?

    Hello all,

After reading all of your wonderful posts and seeing the great builds
I have decided to build my first WFO.

My question is this: I am forced to have a 90 bend in the chimney
to accommodate getting out of my patio ( I cannot go straight up).

Will my chimney work properly with one 90 degree bend in it?

    Thanks,

    RR

    Re: Chimney?

I do know from wood stoves that a 90-degree bend will not affect things too much, but if you do that, I would do 2 things:

    1. Increase the size of your flue
    2. Increase the vertical portion of your chimney.

The first is to increase airflow to accomodate for the roadblock, and the second is to increase airspeed to help the hot air get moving faster to "pull" more air through.

I have never built WFO, but the physics of convection should remain fairly constant.

    Phriday

      Hello Rocket2004

I am considering a similar setup. Building in a breezeway and having the chimney go out under the roof rather than straight up and through the roof.
I will probable do 2 45degree bends rather than 1 90 degree. I think that that should flow better.

Rocket, I believe David is on point. I recall this being discuss way back and the 45 deg approach was the preferred option.
