  • FB board

The FB board was broken in shipping, and seems to be uneven despite being on an even level surface. Should/can I spread the paste of fire clay (leftover from cutting bricks) and sandbox sand mixed with water on top of the FB board to make a flatter surface for the bricks to rest upon?
Also, can the front edge of the FB board be coated with mortar - does mortar stick to that stuff?

The stuff will suck water away from the mortar so fast that you won't be able to work it easily. Cobblerdave uses margarine to prevent this. Alternatiively you can use a dry mix of 50/50 sand and clay and just wriggle the bricks into it it to get them level.

And so that is what I did - dry fire clay (from brick cutting) and some sand - and this worked fine.
