here is how I made the door to protect oven from rain and I'm using it to control airflow. It's stainless but the alloy that is magnetic. 3 strong magnets been glued in 3 places. so in this design I can slide it along the arch.
And the color was done by heating metal with propane torch, but be aware that heat will expand metal and it will stay deformed after it cools.

Well I was busy cooking for family and guests. And between, some time to work on the oven itself. So here is how it looks now and some bread, smoked chicken and pork shoulder. I would not attempt to describe the taste of these by words

the oven's temperature dropped overnight from 450 to 390. And in 1 hour 30min the dome cleared, we baked some tomatoes, bell papers, eggplants and the first pizza! It was very good. So with this mile stone after three month I can relax a bit and want to say big thank you to the community. With this huge source of knowledge and advise from forum members the project was much easier.

Because of the rain, snow I spend time building door and roof, have it tested and installed.
With heating element I got my oven up to 400F in two days. And today with first real fire to 500F in 30 min. It was not hot for pizza but good a loaf of bread.

I will be curious to hear how well the chimney holds up. I know many of us (myself included) have spent many $$$ on expensive dual wall stainless chimney. I think it was the costliest single item in my build! Maybe it is overkill.

I do know that temps off the entry arch are quite high. I don't think you will able to have your roofing material touch that chimney. Are you planning a surround for it?

Edit: scratch that last comment. Now I see that you built it with an inner and outer tube.

Yep and actually it's heavier then required. But material selection is limited where I shop . It's 18 GA vs. most double walled chimneys build out 26ga

And with about 1" of space between walls and no insulation there, the heat from inner wall will be transferred to environment by convection keeping outer tube reasonably cool.
This was used to install stainless steel rivets.

Thanks Guys, Yes scrap yards and craig list helped to keep my cost down.
So far I spend about $1478. This list includes my suppliers. Hope it will help newcomers...
But I have not researched the average cost for similar builds yet.

Build and installed chimney on budget - stainless steel from scrap yards, and old sat. dishes, riveted. total $125 including $40 for metal shop to form tubes 6" and 8", 24" long, paint stripper, hi-heat black paint and auto muffler repair tape I inserted in riveted joints to make them waterproof.

couple of pictures to show progress, and my unintentional fire, thought it was expected, I was wondering how far I can push this particle board, it was suppose to hold up to 180C, but burned through at about 165C. Temperature between bottom of the bricks and CalSill, hearth insulation measured 123C.
