  • Adding color to high heat mortar?

Has anyone added coloring (like the quick-crete liquid additive) to the fireclay mortar from the mortar primer? At least for the landing, I'd like to color the mortar, but I'm not sure what it's made of, and if it will be adversely affected by the heat (or gas off anything nasty into the oven).

    Thanks,

    Mark

I bought some terra cotta colored additive; it's supposedly iron oxide which I'm guessing will be fine. I'm only mixing in a small amount--just enough to warm up the pasty grey of normal mortar. Not sure how obvious it is in the pic, but it definitely helps with the color.

You can add color, but the liquid ones are not very good. It will fade eventually.
