  • Using Existing Foundation for Slab

    Hi all,

    First of all, fantastic forum.

I had started planning my oven location last year but ended up decking that proposed area so now looking at a new location.

My question is: Can I use the existing patio (please see photos and read below):

Am in the UK and have lived at this address for nearly four years and the previous owner did a huge amount of landscaping the garden - no half measures judging by some existing garden foundations.

The patio slabs are minimum 2 1/2 inches thick (weigh a tonne), and I have dug down between a couple and it looks like they have 'probably' been set in cement...but I can't be certain, definitely hitting a hard/hardish material (this was probably laid 20 years ago).

Excavating the patio for many reasons is simply a no go.

The patio is in good condition, not breaking up and appears very well laid, I'm guessing absolute minimum 4 inches thick (guesswork).

I am not looking to build a large oven (36" or smaller)

Do people think would this would suffice as the foundation slab?

Thanks for your help and any other advice!
