  • brick size

    hi,

    new member = stupid questions?

i am trying to source fire bricks in france, the size available seems only to be
22cm x 10 x 5, or 22 x 5 x 5cm, which is more suitable for the dome, and what is the most practical and economic way of laying these?

I have also some old "terre cuite" tiles in good condition can i use these for the hearth floor?

    thanks

    Re: brick size

I'd go with the 22 * 10 * 5 firebricks, for both the floor and dome. The heat retaining abilities of fire brick are far better than plain terra-cotta. BTW, at 8.5 * 3.9 * 2 inches, that size is really close to USA firebricks, just a little thinner. For the dome, you'll cut them in half.

Save the terra cotta tiles for your exterior trim.
