  • Exisiting base slab thick enough?

    Hi,
I am planning on building a 30 inch oven on an existing slab in my garden.
My house is on an artificially raised plot and there is an exisiting slab which has been tiled up. I am getting rid of the tiles but the concrete slab is 2.5 inch thick with there being earth underneath that.
I live in a frost free area.
Is this slab thick enough to support my oven (which i estimate will be 1,200 - 1,500 kg)?
    Thanks!

Sounds to me like it’s not thick enough. Particularly if it is on a slope. Assuming there are no foundations around it’s perimeter, there will be a tendency for it to want to tip down towards the lower end of the slope. Instead of ripping the whole lot up you might consider digging around the perimeter of the existing slab putting in foundations, deeper on the downhill side and casting more concrete, say another 2” with reinforcing, over the existing slab
