  • Max vermiculite insulation thickness?

I have enough room for 6-8 inches of vermiculite insulation. How thick is too thick?

    For under the firebrick floor

It would be better if you have one core thread for posting rather than individual threads, this way, as you do you build, all postings will be centralized.

Here is a K value of v-crete so 5 to 1 ratio, which is suggested for floor insulation is 0.72-.0.75. Thermo Gold 12 (CaSi) is 0.5 @ 500F. So you need to make the decision.

I've decided on 5:1 vcrete just don't know how thick. I'm learning please bear with me. So the info you post calsi board, is .5 at what thickness? Or is that in general? Basically if I put 6-8 inches of vcrete, am I ever going to wish I went thicker, or different material? Thanks for your time

Standard unit for K values is "Btu•in/(hr•ft2•°F)". I am somewhat confused, one post you wanted info on how to decide how much CaSi to layout and buy and this post how much Vcrete to install. Are you doing both? 3-4" of CaSi is as the upper end of the scale for insulation and so would 6-8" of 5 to 1 vcrete, you do not need both.

I changed my mind on the calsil. Its drastically cheaper to do vcrete. 30 cubic feet of vermiculite locally is 160, which will get me about 8". Sorry for any confusion
