Yes, both my oven and my fireplace is made from the red firebricks, I drove all the way up to Progressive Brick in Passaic County to get them. I think they look a lot better then the beige ones.
Another builder used them to alternate a couple of rings and I liked the look.
I just lucked out in that my brick supplier happend to have about 30 leftover from a previous job. I'm just planning on using them for 3 rows then I'll use the tan colored. I have seen black, light red and some other colors...
The local brick place has regular colored, and a light red colored firebrick for the same price. I don't recall seeing these red colored firebricks in anyones pictures, nor have I seen it discussed. Could anyone tell me what is different about them and/or if it's okay to use them? My dog ate the receipt but it was a little under 1 dollar each.
