  • Vermiculite board as insulation in oven door - any good?

    Hi,

I'm about to make a door for my soon-to-be finished oven.

I've considered a few options for this. Since I don't know how to weld, some of the solutions on here will be very expensive.

I'm considering a wooden door with some sort of insulation, so it wont spontaneously combust.

One option I saw in the "show us your door" thread was to construct a shell of thin steel with pop rivets and then fill it with left over ceramic fiber blanket. I have most of the materials for this on hand.

Another option I think I have found, is to buy a piece of vermiculite board made for lining the inside of fireplaces and attach that directly to the wooden door with bolts or something. The linked piece should be enough for 2 or 3 layers.

    Has anyone tried this?
