  • Thin medium duty firebrick (1.25" splits) vs Light Duty

    Hey everyone,

I'm planning out my first pizza oven. My supplier only has 2.5" thick brick in light duty, but they have 1.25" splits in medium duty.

Which is better to use for 1) the oven floor, and 2) the dome?

    Thanks so much!

Stay Away from the splits. Use the 2.5" Thick

Thanks Chach. Even for the dome? I figure that either way, the dome will be 4.5" thick. I'm wondering if there's benefit to medium-duty brick in the dome though because splits would require many more bricks for the dome.

Splits are not worth the money and usually the same cost as full bricks. As far as using medium duty instead of light duty I think you're just wasting your money as there is really no reward in using the medium instead of the light duty. For what we use our ovens for we will never reach the temps that the medium duty was designed to hit so I believe there really is little to no reward to that. Lets hear what others think about this as well.
