  • Mortar screw up

I'm not sure what I was thinking when I purchased supplies for the homebrew mix of 3:1:1:1 ,I purchased type S lime, fireclay, #30 Silica sand and mortar mix instead of Portland cement, i.must have had Mortar on my mind!! Anyway not realizing my screw up until after I have half the oven built Im wondering how screwed I am. Bricks are very solid, lots of white lime residue forming but excess dried mortar tends to crumble when squeezed. Any masons have thoughts on this?

    TIA

Not sure how far you’ve got when you say “half built”. If it’s only the dome cast, I’d be starting again. But you could always keep forging on and see what happens.
