  • How high is your oven cooking floor?

I am about 5' 10", and I like a higher hearth -- around 42". If it's too low, you have to stoop over, but if it's too high, you can't control your peels (and the kids can't help).

    Mines 990mm (around 39")
I like to be able to sit on a chair and see directly into my oven.
Gives me a warm fuzzy feeling

      Hey All,

I built the oven floor at 44 inches above grade. I stand six foot two inches, and I like the oven floor height. Good leaning height.... (not me in the picture, but a standard height guy....)

I can see into the back of the oven easily.

And have not heard any complaints from the guests, who were busy eating excellent pizza!

Re: How high is your oven cooking floor?

My oven floor is 1100mm high (around the 43-44") and ideal for seeing right into the oven even though I am only 5'10 high.
This will reduce a little once I resurface the floor in the outdoor kitchen build.
As with Jed, I have no complaints from the rest of the family and friends as they all cook their own creations.

Re: How high is your oven cooking floor?

Come on, I thought everyone has been metricated by now.
We (all thoise down here in Aus),went through it in the 70's and find the old imperial units of length measurement quite archaic!
inches, feet, yards, miles, (including nautical), fathoms, and even hands (for horses) and probably a lot more that I can't think of at the spur of the moment.
Millimeters and meters are just so easy to work with, especially when working with carpentry or steel. 15mm is a lot easier than 'a tadd short of 5/8"

So, to answer your question Francis, 1100mm is 110cm or 1.1 metres!
Divide it by 25.4 will give the old fashioned inches conversion.
Our household is used to working with both units, metric and imperial, as my wife is very big into quilting and computerised machine embroidery. Since the US are leaders in both, then everything is imperial.

Ok ok, I was just being lazy, I'll admit it... and definately not trying to resart the metric vs. imperial discussion again...!

So, my oven cooking floor is 106 cm high.

                  41.7 inches.

I start out at 42" aff on all ovens I install, The lowest deck ht. was 37" The woman did all the cooking and stood about 4'10" and the highest was at 52" an again it was the woman and she was 6'2"or so and that was a Forno Brick oven installed in a house outside of Reno NV. I say start at 42" and go from there.
