  • Has someone used a natural insulating material for your oven?

    Hi everyone:

I'd like to know if someone has ever used a natural insulation material for your oven instead of the ceramic or fiber glass insulation? Any experiences?

    Thank you!

Vermiculite is a natural insulation - it's mined around the world.

Perlite is a 'puffed stone' - also a common masonry insulation.

Volcanic pumice can work - It's what the Romans used - But you need considerable more of it than vermiculite or perlite.

Besides, what's natural? I once saw a bumper sticker that said, "If it didn't come from a farm, it came from a mine"

Or, are we working around to the old "Can I use sand/gravel/glass for my insulation" question?
