I am building my first pizza oven. I am very excited. Even with all this rain in California , I covered my whole project. I am having an issue with my refractory mortar setting up. The side that the wind has been blowing on is set but the side that dose not is still wet. Any suggestions?

Re: Refractory mortar
Rockstar, you might give us some more info. Are you using a prepackaged mortar like Heatstop50 or a home mix? Was the mortar mix the same batch for both sides concerned. Did you rehydrate (add water) to the mortar at any time? This can drastically affect the setting time and total streangth. Did you overhyrate from the initial mix or said another way, did you control your water cement ratio? If so, the wind may have been doing you a favor by drying the overly wet mortar some. There are some threads here on the board that discuss overhydration and that can cause some refractory mortars to never set. They are more touchy than a Portland mortar.____________________________________________
