  • My mason put mortar between floor tiles and dome!

So my mason installed the dome of my 2G80 today, but filled the gaps between the floor tiles and the dome with the high temp mortar. i know (now!) that this is not recommended, but is this a serious problem? Do I need to do anything about it? It's too well dried now that I've come home from work to get it out easily.

Will the potentially different expansion rates just crack the mortar, or worse?

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

The mortar will probably crack before any serious damage occurs. Mortar is the weakest link in the construction.

If you're really worried, tell your mason to cut out the mortar with a diamond blade. And stress that he should read the installation instructions.

If the mortar only crumbles then I'm not too worried about it. I considered trying to cut it out, but the curvature of the dome would make that very difficult!

      thanks for the reply,
