    Happy spring everyone!

Nice weather means a return to the oven-- and a new question. This spring the plan is to create a landing and a permanent enclosure for the oven. The landing is the tricky part. It will be easy to place a layer of firebricks under the arch. The problem is that that leaves a lip between the oven hearth and the landing. It's probably about 1/2 high, I'd say. I'm not sure what to do there. Is it possible to slice fire brick that thin? If not, what would be an alternative solution?

    Thanks in advance!

    Re: Landing

Use full thickness brick and key the back or use a lean mortar mix to level up the split brick

Thanks. Forgive my ignorance, but what does "key the back" mean? Or if I used mortar, would it need to be some sort of refractory mix?
