  • Casting with Homebrew and Temperature thresholds

    Hey Forum,

I am helping a friend with a Homebrew Castable WFO. Temperatures for the next week are hovering around 0 Degrees Celsius overnight with Daily Temps of between 8 and 12 degrees Celsius.

Is it safe to cast a dome in these temps? Dave S I would appreciate you chiming in on this since you are one of the Homebrew Whisperers.

What is the minimum temperature for safe casting and wet curing?

    Thanks in advance.

I presume you are concerned that the water content in the casting might freeze, expand and create damage. As I live in the tropics and our lowest temperature is around 10 C only 3 times annually, I don’t have experience with freeze damage. I would think that you would have to have temperatures well below freezing for it to be a problem. If you contact a local bricklayer or mason they should be able to give you the answer for your area.
