Just did a proper clean of my homebrew castable oven, and upon inspection I can see quite a few stainless steel needles at the surface. Either like fully embedded, or some which was partly embedded. Good news is that they are 304ss and show no sign of degradation after 20-30 or so fires, but this got me a bit concered some of them may become dislogded and fall into the food. Used a wire brush to try to get rid of some, and surely quite a few fell of. Also the refractory itself crumbled quite a bit. Few larger pieces, but a lot of dust and in the start small bits.
