  • morter under soldier?

in the instructions I don't see this called for and in most pics it does not look like folks have a mortar joint under the soldier but I did see a few with it. I am putting my soldier on top of the floor. If you don't put it under what keeps the bricks from moving in recognizing most of the force would be pushing out from the dome and you have mortar on the outside to hold them in place

    thanks

If for no other reason, you should mortar it so that you can keep everything level.

its pretty level now but I guess a thin layer of mortar underneath won't hurt

The tolerance for firebrick is pretty tight since they are dry pressed, but there is still a small amount of variation in size.

I mortared under mine. I don't plan to have mortar behind them.

Seems like that's the base and you would want them firmly held in place. Either under or behind.
