Re: 42" Pompeii oven build in Northwest Indiana
@Capt- Thanks for the kind words!
@trapper - I decided to take vanes out early on to make sure inside stayed clean...too early on, hence my dome being taller than I anticipated. Dang Newbies.
I plan to stucco upper section and maybe stone veneer on bottom (this project ran out of money so maybe all stucco).
I have to say that this was fun building and I may even miss it. I truly enjoyed stalking all the veteran builders on this site... especially love how Dino's turned out as-well-as Ken524 oven. I took a Little from them and maybe your "wooden box on wheels" idea which my wife just loves!
all Great people and ideas on this forum!
Mark

Very nice Mark.
How did you get the vanes out once you were done building the dome?
What are your plans to finish the outside or your oven?

Re: 42" Pompeii oven build in Northwest Indiana
Good luck on the build Mark. I considered multiple vanes but opted for one that spun. Your approach will definitely speed up the process but you will need to climb inside to clean up the mortar. The firewithin group are pretty cool, very nice people...

42" Pompeii oven build in Northwest Indiana
Started in June 2011 with slab and blocks. Now Summer 2012 finally building oven. I have been reading this forum forever. Had the idea of going mobile and attended the FireWithin course in Colorado with my wife. For now I think I will build in my backyard to perfect the art and see where it takes me!
