I've contacted three local firebrick sources. None can tell me the specs on their bricks. One said he had light duty bricks, but I'm not sure what he's basing that on. Is there a significant downside to using light duty instead of medium? Does either have a faster heat up time? I'm not sure that I'll be able to confirm that any bricks I find are medium (or even light) duty.

Re: can't get brick specs
hi jim, ran into same problem my self. surely they can tell you the manufacture (whiteacre greer, ect), and from there you should be able to get a spec sheet. I could not find med duty, though i tried, most on this site used with great success, light duty bricks, which have a lower alumina content, medium duty is higher in cost, and harder to find. The pompeii manual goes into great detail about this, also James has a sticky note in pompeii construction area of forum the has a brick primer. I personally would not purchase unless I knew they were light duty, and who the manufacture was. Pat
