Got my bricks! Feels good to finally be...almost ready to start the oven proper. However, they appear very fragile. Seems like they chip/scratch VERY easily. Is that how all firebricks are, or is it just mine from Mt Savage in PA? The only other option near me is low duty from Whitacre Greer, though I haven't laid hands on them, so maybe they're just as chippable.
    Here's mine:

    Jim,

They do chip very easy. The good news is that they cut very easy.

      Re: fragile bricks

      Hi Jim,

I had similar concerns about mine. It turns out that the pallets had been out in the weather a long time. The outer faces were significantly softer than the protected ones.

All of the bricks are fairly brittle, but easier to shape and grind when necessary.
