It has been a year since we began this journey and man does this feel good. We are enjoying the oven and having more pizza parties than a high school fundraiser. I began the cultured stone at the beginning of the summer along with the concrete countertops. Here are the latest pictures. Thank you again to the forum for ideas and unlimited information. To anyone who believes that this is too big a task and you will screw it up, we are proof that it can be done. My oven works great and this was my first masonry experience.

Welcome and thanks for posting. Did you document your build?
That is a great setup and a job well done.
Cheers

Re: Almost there 42 in Syracuse
We did take several pictures of progress that I will post soon. I used a lot of ideas from the forum and as everyone here does, made it my own in some way. It was a lot of fun and has been a great excuse to have people over for dinner. I cannot wait to start adding around our oven. Tonight we put the front oven shelf in that I made from polishing concrete, pictures will be added tomorrow.

Re: Almost there 42 in Syracuse
Here is the small ledge that I made out of polished concrete. I have had a lot of fun screwing around with the concrete and the price is right as well. The ledge cost me $20 to make contrasted with a couple hundred dollars if I chose a custom piece of limestone or something else.

Wow. You need to give some polished concrete lessons.

Re: Almost there 42 in Syracuse
Where abouts are you in Syracuse? I live in Rome and work in Syracuse. I built mine last year and have yet to complete the dome insulation, something I'm planning on working on this weekend. I'd love to see your project.

Re: Almost there 42 in Syracuse
The polished concrete is a real feature. I have tiles around the front of my oven but were I to build again I would have to learn how to polish and incorporate that into the prep area.
You have the process worked out and an excellent result.Cheers ......... Steve
