one other question. how do you cut the harth bricks with the saw? just use small cuts then sand them? or is there some other method?

They are actually just straight line cuts. A lot of straight line cuts . After a couple of bricks you will be making very short cuts and actually turning the brick at the same. It is kind of hard to explain, but everybody gets the hang of it after just a few bricks .
