  • 42" Oven build in UK

After a false start with the foundation slab which was dug up following advice from here, I will be starting my build tomorrow in earnest. The footings are excavated and the hardcore in place. Just need to whack it down and get the rebar set up and its all systems go for the pour.

I'll post photos as I go along and am happy to receive any advice, hints, tips or comments that can help to make the build go more smoothly.

I am a complete novice and have never attempted anything like this before. As you will see in the pictures, the oven is part of a larger garden landscaping project, so at times will have to take a back seat to decking and paving laying etc. I've set a rough deadline of completion of the whole garden by 1st June, which will be tough, but am looking forward to the challenge.

Oh yes, forgot to put that. Will put it down once I've whacked the rubble down.

Greetings unclebhuna - It seems that you have already put some thought and a lot of effort into your build. Plenty of good advice available here from many more skilled and experienced than me.

What are you going to build, igloo, doghouse?

          Some people are just nosey.

Look forward to following your build and I expect that it will be full steam ahead after your severe winter.
          Cheers ......... Steve

Hi Greenman. I have put a little thought into my build but have much to learn and am flying by the seat of my pants if I'm honest. I've done the pour today and will post some pics later. Very happy with it. Have got a good 5 inches of concrete and plenty of reinforcement bar in it. Going for an igloo with the outer done in reclaimed Accrington brick. Best brick in the world! They were made about 5 miles from me and were used in the foundations in the Empire State Building.

It really looks like you are on your way. You have quite a project going. I am in the middle of my build and anxious to see how yours go's. It looks like the new slab is going to be done right. After we were making suggestions last time, I picked up a bunch of block for mine. It was 8000 lbs. This is before the oven get's built and before the concrete get's poured on top of my stand.

              These things are very heavy!!

              Looking good.

The slab seems to be curing nicely. I'll post a couple of pics and also some of the bricks I'll be using for the outside of my igloo. Got them for free out of a skip where someone was doing a house renovation. Took three trips in the car but well worth it.
