  • Perlite mixing ratios

I'm thinking about using a Portland / Perlite ratio of 1 to 11 parts.
I was given the attached mixing table from the company where I'm purchasing the Perlite.
I also learned that some Perlite may have a silicon coating and for our purpose we should avoid that.
The amount of water in the mix is not as critical for the strength of the perlite mix as with concrete. You want to keep it wet (damp) for a few days when curing.
I've translated some of the text in the table....

For got this one "rumfang = volume"

    Re: Perlite mixing ratios

Because the perlite is so porous a much greater amount of water is required for the mix. The excess water provides plenty for the curing process but presents problems because it needs to be removed. I can't think of a reason why the silicon coated stuff is unsuitable, but there may be. If I could get it I would use the silicon coated stuff because less water would be required for the mix and therefore less problems in removing the excess. This test I did on vermicrete may be helpful for you.
