My brother in law is visiting and offered to make a outer door for me. Our initial thoughts are to make it in stainless steel. He suggested a hinged design that would be mounted to the face of the outer arch. He would make a frame, about 2 inches wide that would be screwed onto the face of the arch. The frame would have pin hinges that would support the weight of the doors and allow the half doors to be easily lifted off the pin if desired. Assuming this design makes sense, we would like suggestions to help complete the design.
First, what metal should he use and what thickness. He has 1/8" stainless he could use but does not know if this will be adequate.
I want an adjustable vest but don't know what size the unrestricted opening needs to be.
He is highly skilled in metal workings and worked as a professional welder until his recent retirement.
