  • Under the hearth temperature

I was curious to know what should be the temp from inside the base?
right now, with the oven that reached temperature (white dome) the temperature under the structural slab is around 115 degres.
Is that normal or I am leaking heat? I used 3.5" structural slab and 4" vermicrete.

Yannick, it sounds to me like you are leaking a little bit of heat - but really that is not bad at all. What was the temperature outside? 110?

Even if you were leaking a lot of heat, I don't think there is anything you could do about it, correct?

Your oven looks great - enjoy it!

Like you said, there is nothing I can do about it. I'm just at that stage where I try to see what I did wrong, good, to perfect the process if I ever build another one later if I move or for someone else.
When the oven dome was 1300 degrees F.inside, the outside stucco was 94 and the floor was around 760 and the underneath of the hearth was 115.
I suppose every oven is unique.

4 inches of vermiculite is obviously not as good as 4 inches of board. But you are seeing a delta of 645 deg - Not bad. I would say you are insulated, cook on!
