    By my calculation the minimum is:

    36 + 9 (2 x 4.5 inches for the firebrick) + 6 (2 x 3 inches for the insulation blanket) + 2 (2 x 1 inch for the stucco dome) = 53 inches

    I came up with 55 1/2" width total Plus the landing I want the dome edge to sit on the edge of the round slab

    I would figure in 3 inches of fiber blanket and then 1-3 inches of either mortar, Stucco and or Perlite mix.

    that should give you and idea. I would make it bigger rather than smaller, however I don't understand an of your space challenges.

    36 in oven exterior width

    hi all when i build my dome i know its 36'' plus the brick width say 4 1/8'' each brick 44 1/4" then the insulation barrier plus additional mortar over that ? i don't want to cover the dome rather just water proof it how wide will the exterior dome be compete ,as i'm making my concrete slab round to suit?
    PS my fire brick are 8 5/8'' x 4 1/8'' x 2 3/8'' ish white / cream in color
