  • What size ceramic board?

    Hi

I am hoping to pour the concrete for the cooking floor base at the weekend - and I'm a bit puzzled by the plans. Should I cut the 2 inch insulating board so that it sits entirely inside the dome - i.e. so the dome bricks rest on the concrete rather than the board? This seems logical but some of the FB board cut shapes in the plans suggest otherwise.

    Thanks for any help!

You do not want any of your oven bricks sitting on the concrete slab... this will wick away heat unnecessarily. It is commonly stated on the forum: "the entire oven should be contained within a bubble of insulation.

Thanks John - I was just concerned that the ceramic board will bear the weight of the dome - but I guess that's OK?

      Cheers

I left about a half an inch extra beyond the dome bricks so yes, everything sits on the fiber board. Then put down the insulating blanket and if you want a layer of Vermicrete. I used 3 inches of blanket and one inch of vermicrete then covered with stucco.

Still trying to figure out my plan on finishing the dome - tile most likely.
