Great Dave! Thank you for posting, it does look similar to mine.

How did you build the wire cage? What kind of wire? And what did you use as a screen? I ended up using some kind of foamy product which is actually intended as noise insulation under flooring (if that makes any sense), and chicken wire... Sorry if I'm asking so many questions, I just spent so much time working out how to do this bit, I'm really interested to know what you came up with.

And what on earth is metal lathe when its at home?? According to wikipedia its a kind of spinning cutting machine. But I'm pretty sure you shouldn't cover it with plaster...

I used wire type fencing...

And fiberglass window screen.

The fencing comes in 3 foot wide rolls.
I had to cut it to match the shape of the dome.
I attached it by putting in screws in the perlcrete layer under my dome. They screwed in and held rather well. I then used a piece of wire to attach to the screws and then attached the other end of the wire to the cage I built.
That helped to keep it in place.
Then I threw the screening over the top and attached it to the cage with more wire in lots of spots. The screen had to be tight to the cage or the verm/perlite would push it out. I think I ended up with about 6 inches of verm/perlite over most of the dome. Of course the top is now quite bare, other than the blanket, so I will have to add more this weekend.

I will try to take some close up pics, because this is hard to explain. But easy to show!~

I will find a link to the metal lathe for plastering.

Actually I should be referring to stucco, not plaster.
Don't know how I got that stuck in my brain... but here is what the metal lathe looks like.

The first layer of stucco is spread on this.

Before that pizza, I tried to cook a supreme for my step dad. It was thoroughly loaded!

frustrating experience

Now, you can put all you favorite toppings on, but... lightly.
Keep it light and you should be good to go.

Or cook a fully loaded pizza (think Pizza Hut here) at lower temps.

Maybe make the heavier pies toward the end of the session.

I find heavily loaded pizzas difficult to cook, you may have better luck at it than me.

Yes propane. The most benefit comes from the extra oxygen that the burner pulls in ..

it's actually coarser than window screen, and kind of three dimensional. They call it expanded metal lath, because they stamp parallel lines through thin sheet metal, then pull to expand it into a wavy matrix. Kind of hard to explain.

BTW, the first image on google images for expanded metal lath, is from a UK site, so they must have the stuff in Europe.

Window screen is woven wire or now, fibreglass, fabric, with about one millimeter square holes.

What's with the no-window-screens in Europe bit? Don't you have bugs?
