Glad to see you've found what we hope is a good solution. I remember the day you announced the big crack and the first falling brick.....you were pretty bummed.....I thought you would walk away, maybe find another project. Very happy you hung in there and used the heck out of it and now are back to repairing and completing. GOOD JOB.....now go make us another dough slinging video.

Looks like a good fix Dave! That metal arch should do the trick.

I've said it before, but one thing your falling bricks do show is how stable these domes really are... even if you loose a brick or two (or four ), the dome doesn't just tumble down, and you can fix it.

Everyone needs tools.

So here are mine that I used to work on my oven finish...

The hoe is the same hoe I started this project with... Although I did have to change the handle after burning it up .....

Now for some action.

I added more chicken wire and mortar..
I finally closed it in.

And let me tell you, I think it felt better than placing the keystone!


The first pic is what the top looked like. I added more vermiculite for extra insulation.

No... We're going to Disney in October. Sort of turning into a tradition with us.

My son and I went to the Bonnaroo Music Festival in TN last week, then we all drove down to New Orleans for 2 days of French Quarter fun.

BTW, the French Quarter is open for business and the Muffaletta's are fine!
