Re: Entry is done
Les, thanks for posting the new progress pics. Your transition is looking great.
Remember... Think of it as a fun challenge! (and you only have to do it once!)

Re: Entry is done
Hi Les,
Great work! On your question: "Would you grind the part of brick that you see forming the interior dome?", I'd leave them well alone personally. Check out the attached photo. It's of a (centuries) old brick oven in a Villa near San Gimignano in Tuscany. You can see a similar feature to yours at the top left corner of the opening. Been through a lot, this oven, including the odd earthquake, I suspect. Still in use!
Cheers, Paul.

Re: Entry is done
These cuts are getting insane! It looks like one more course and it gets back to the hassle I know and love. Ken - you are a little ahead of me , please tell me it gets easier.... Check out the photo gallery and you will see what I mean. Also, since I've been outside the box for most of this endeavor, I plan on tying all the required courses to the arch before I complete the runs. Hopefully, I can show that part tomorrow...

Re: Entry is done
Les, impressive work and progress. I have been filled with my own preperation, but I have got to see yours up close. There is nothing like the visual progress, and sorry I could not get out there recently.

Not a prob - I'm good with the "ugly factor" Remember - I'm out of pills.

Re: Entry is done
Guys, I never did see it.....lets just say I did some very creative cutting. Too many double/triple compound cuts. I did a lot of trial and error cutting. I too was concerned with the ugly factor (even though no one will ever see it) and probably spent far too much time on those transition pieces.
Wish I had some helpful advice, sorry.

I just can't quite see it.

Re: Entry is done
Wayne,
I found some oval flue pipe. I plan on using an angle grinder to match the curve of the arch - then it's just a matter of mortaring the puppy on there. The size is 8 x 13 inches.. If that doesn't quite cover the vent opening they have another that is 8 x 17.

Re: Entry is done
Hi Les...saw your latest pictures of vent arch and it is looking great. I am at a similar stage and wondering if you are going to a anchor plate with stainless stack and if you are how are you doing the transition between the curved vent arch and the rectangle opening for vent to the square anchor plate....wayne

Entry is done
I got the third coarse complete with the entry arch. In hind sight, I would not recommend this approach - a ton of cuts... It does appear to be working though. If I had it to do over, I think I would set the inside arch with brick ties and go from there. My thought was to get everything locked together on the entry - I achieved that. (I need to get back in the box)
