  • Ryan's 42

Here are some photos. My wife finally let me borrow the camera. Daylight savings means it is dark at 4:45pm here! I will take more photos on Saturday. Next time I do this I will buy a dome from Forno Bravo for sure. This has been harder than anticipated. I was able to work on the oven in the dark for 2 hours until all the dogs in the neighborhood started barking when I would fire up the saw for some cuts!

    Thanks,

    Ryan

        Looks good Ryan.

Do you have any pictures specific to how you handled the work with the angle iron at the oven door. I'm planning to do a post in the tips/techniques forum so that others can see several different examples of how to attack this situation.

          Hi Ryan,

You're right about at that point where you do start wondering what you got yourself into but it's looking good and you WILL reach the end - hang in there!

            Thanks Sarah.

            Les,

I will look for some photos to show how I linked the angle iron. I will take some close ups as well.

            Thanks,

            Ryan

                Re: Ryan's 42

Thanks Drew. I thought that all day yesterday as I worked onthe oven from 8am to 4pm until I ran out of Heat Stop. As the dome gets closer and closer to completion I get more and more excited. I am casting the vent this coming week. I heard that if you put steel needles in the castable it helps to prevent cracking. Have you heard of this?

                Thanks,

                Ryan

I didn't hear that about the steel needles. My recently casted vent is cracking.

You get the stainless steel needles from the same place you got the refractory material. I've not used them myself, but I'm told they are called needles for a reason - be careful.

I finished the dome tonight! We had an unusual heat surge to 76 today so I came home early from work and finished the dome! I will add photos tomorrow.

                      Thanks,

                      Ryan
