Vegemite is disgusting Kemo. You really don't want to know...

Kemo, Australian vegemite is similar to the British product it copied called Marmite. The tastes are quite different but they are both produced from beer yeast extract. It's an aquired taste. The original product that inspired both is also British and called Bovril. It is similar in appearance and taste to Marmite but is made from beef extract. During the BSE crisis Bovril also flirted with yeast extract but went back to beef after the furore died down.

Not sure of the veracity but we have a slice of toast spread with Marmite as it is said to repel mosquitos.

I think it may repel more than that..........

.... beer is an aquired taste too, but if you put that on too thick you will pass out ..........marmite is way too sweet

lets not forget (whoops its sounding like a memorial service) Vegemite is one of the worlds richest known Vitamin B sources.....it must be right, its says it on the jar (inserts sarcastic grin)

            Bacterium,

I've had way to much exposure to both Marmite and Vegimite in my travels and domestic arrangements at one time or another. Marmite is commonly available on Ontario supermarket shelves, unfortunately, near the Golden Syrup and Rose's Lime. But, hey, lets not be too harsh here. Both M & V are adaptable, useful products and will do serious duty when you can't find the axle grease . For me, they're right up there with tofu, which works wonders when you can't find the window glass putty . M & V are indeed acquired tastes that will last for hours. Tofu has no taste at all. Go figure.

I always thought it said, "He just smiled and gave me a bite of his sandwich."
