Cracks

I build this a few weeks ago. All with fire bricks and heat stop cement. I fired it twice i found a spot in the back that was hot and smoke coming through. I patched it by hand with heats stop. Is it ok to patch it by hand or is the cement not gonna bond with the old cement good enough ???
