I'm about to buy some perlite, and was wondering how much I should get. The garden store by me sells it in 4 cu ft bags. I only plan on 1-2" of percrete for my 42" oven. Any idea of how much I need to buy? Thanks!

Re: Perlite amount
buy 3 or 4.....
shoot for 4 to 6 inches
My humble opinion

Re: Perlite amount
Thanks! Unfortunately 4-6" just won't work for me. I already have about 2-3" of ceramic blanket on the sides, and 4-5" on top. Too much percrete would actually put me over the edge of my stand.

Re: Perlite amount
OH!
I didn't realize you had that much blanket.
Then 1 -2 bags... my best guess.
It took me about 1/2 of a bag of fine vermiculite to cover my chimney and entry.
But that was 2-3 inches deep overall.

Dave
What ratio were you using? I think the plans called for 5:1 perlite to cement, but I'm really not sure. Thanks again!

Re: Perlite amount
Yeah...
5 to 1.. Use vermiculite if you can.
Much easier to work with.
Mix the verm or perlite with the cement first.
Then add just enough water to get it to stay put.
If you use perlite, make sure to pick up some goggles, if you don't already have some.
