Re: One more insulation Question
If you are enclosing it in a masonry "house", then you could also fill the void with loose vermiculite...it is cheap and ver effective. You probably don't need to do it with 4" of blanket but it cannot hurt...

Re: One more insulation Question
I think if you truly have 4" of blanket you shouldn't need any other insulation.
I"m assuming you're enclosing the dome/blanked in something. If so I would just use chicken wire to keep the blanket it place. I was surpised how well my blanket stayed in place. I used some wire to hold it down in a few places then wrapped in chicken wire (before I applied perlcrete). Given the "properties" of the blanket I would be sure it's not exposed to the outside/food in anyway.
Hope this helps.

One more insulation Question
Well I have located some ceramic blanket - and plan to put on 2 - 2" layers for a total of 4" of blanket. My dome will be in a water tight enclosure. Masonry with a wood shake roof over it.
Do I need to cover this with perlcrete?
If not, what holds the blanket in place?
Thanks again for your assistance.Tags: None
