  • Oven hearth question

    Hi Folks,

I'm getting to the soldier course on my oven, and wondering about the oven floor before I go too far. I thought I ran into a thread that talked about pouring fireclay or fireclay/sand mixture into the small remaining gaps between the bricks of the floor, but could not find it today.

Can someone confirm wether or not to fill in the gaps in the floor?

Thanks in advance from Salt Lake,

    Valan

    Valan,

You don't need to fill the cracks for the floor bricks. The should be put together snuggly. (Any voids will soon be filled with ashes anyway)

The fireclay/sand mixture can be used underneath the firebrick if they are not quite level. Most are using this dry.

    Good luck with the build!
