  • oven floor base sand

i poured the hearth (man that vermiculite is strange - while it is strong in compression, it is quite crumbly!)

anyhow, i am going to set the floor bricks tomorrow, but first need to trowel on the 50/50 mix of fireclay and sand. the instructions call for fine sand. is all-purpose okay? i have some on-hand, and have trouble finding anything different.

    thanks!

In Oz we'd call it washed sand, but I presume it's the same thing. It's a clean pale grey(ish) colour.

Any sand is fine here. Play sand from HD, or the stuff from the brickyard for making concrete. You just want a flat non-combustible layer under your floor (your vermiculite concrete layer is unlikely to be pool-table flat.)
