  • vent area

    my oven construction is coming along - i am building a 42" high-dome (basically a perfect half-sphere) with a non-arched opening.

i am on the 8th ring of brick, and at the height to start adapting for the vent area. i am a bit confused in this area, and am looking for some help. the plans call for a 8" inner chimney for such a sized oven, and i bough a 8"x8" terra cotta tube. the plans also state that the vent area should sort of "funnel" into the chimney. therefore, i assume the first opening to the vent would have to be larger than 8"x8", so it will eventually taper down to the 8"x8" size. can anyone give some more specifics here?

i may try to post some sketches to help explain what i am after.

    thanks!

    Re: vent area

It comes a little difficult to make your void funnel shaped and then into an 8" flued chimney with bricks, so I made my void rectangular and made a stainless steel funnel with an 8" flue to extend the required 10' into the air to prevent smoking out the neighbours on startup.
    Check out my flue at:

permalink #13.The pic is attatched and the smaller one is the vent that I made and just fitted to Hendo's oven. Again his is a little smaller but I still made the 8" flue to draw exceptionally well for his smaller oven. They make the fitting of oven illumination and I use the domestic 'down lights' a breeze and they work a treat.
    Just an easier option.
