  • Vermiculite or Perlite

Im almost ready for insulating layer. What should I use vermiculite or perlite. Someone said that perlite has more insulating value. Is that true? I thought I saw that perlite is cheaper than vermiculite at HD.
    Thanks

    Re: Vermiculite or Perlite

I used half and half. I found it more workable than the straight vermiculite.

1 part cement to 6 parts vermiculite and 6 parts perlite. Just enough water to make it workable. Mix the water and cement separately then add to the vermiculite / perlite very gently to avoid "breaking down" the particles.

Make sure you get the coarse perlite.

I couldn't find vermiculite so I used perlite. It was easy to mix with cement and worked well for insulation. It insulates my oven extremely well.
