    Greg
Just drop the sides on the shelter, crank up the heater and keep going. Snow and cold is no excuse ;-) easy to say from san diego.

"Oh the weather outside is frightful..."

Geisen, here's the view that we awoke to this morning... should be about 12" on the ground before this storm has passed thru the area by this afternoon... and yes, that is my HF tile saw somewhere under the small tarp. :-0

And there's a few shots showing the current progress. I only had to shave about 1/4" off a single brick to make the arch go together. But I'm really concerned now that my bricks are too much in alignment towards the middle of the oven -- I wasn't paying attention to that before, so I'm going to have to really watch for that moving forward.

Maybe I need to put a strand or two of xmas lights on the pizza hut to get me motivated to go work out in the cold!

Good Morning Greg... we're never really quite ready for that first big snow! being in the exterior building products business, you can imagine how slow we are today... i stopped at Belden yesterday and bought some firebrick splits, i laid out my solder course on a piece of plywood in my shop and needed a couple of splits to finish the circle. i see that you bought the fireclay from Belden, what ratio are you using for your mortar? i called Falcon Manufacturing in Byron Center this morning, and they can cut me a half sphere made out of EPS, 36" diameter. if the cost isn't outrageous, i'll cut all of my brick and assemble the oven "dry" in my shop.. I can then go full blast in the spring...

No snow in Seattle, but it's 27F. I'm still laying bricks. It helps tremendously that my saw is inside in my basement. In addition, I mix my mortar not with hose water (which may or may not run at this temperature anyway) but rather with warm water from the house. Keeps my fingers from freezing and is better for the mortar anyway.

You would be surprised how warm a halogen work light will make you when it is pointed directly at the area you are working on (and thereby at you).

Looks great Greg. Your fortitude in the cold and snow is inspiring (and chilling ).

Your inner arch looks strong. You did a great job of having your arch bricks wedge-shaped so there isn't any negative pressure to worry about.

I assume you are going to add another arch on your structural inner arch to create the top reveal? If so, that will help hide slight tilt you see.

Xmas lights on your "pizza hut"? Should be a neat picture, please post, -Dino

I know what you guys mean by winter sneaking up on you. Today, driving back from work with my convertible top down I thought to myself, gee my legs are kinda chilly; maybe i should have worn long pants.

Don't we have forum moderators to screen out these kinds of posts?? Hey, at least it's pretty here for 3 weeks in the fall!

Mike, maybe it's time for us mid-westerners to hunker down in the snow and just enjoy the posts from our warmer neighbors to the south and west -- talk to you again in 6 months, after the thaw!

                      Hey Greg,
Looks like I am going to need some pointers on how to construct a proper PizzaHut.

Good Morning Greg. Are you ready for the storm coming in? Just a quick FYI... we did a pheasant hunt yesterday up on Fruitridge (i really wish i had my oven built), the guy had a couple of cords of cherry split and aged, stored in his barn. $200.00 a cord. once I'm ready to go, I'll probably contact him and get a rick just for my oven. If you're interested, let me know..

                              Stony,
We hunted at the Fruitridge farm a few weeks ago -- lots of fun, but we picked a VERY cold and rainy day and didn't do that well. Plus he still had most of the corn standing tall which made it more difficult. I cut down several large cherry trees at the edge of my deck to construct the oven, so I'll be all set next summer! Thanks, and enjoy the blizzard!

don't know if the last post went through.. anyway, i've cut a lot of brick in my shop, bought the duraboard and it's time to start to assemble outside. i noticed that you are using homebrew mortar...what are you using for sand? should i get silica, or just go to lake Michigan and grab a couple of buckets of beach sand??
