  • unique oven enclosure

we started this oven with the idea of using a steel dome as the inner
oven form, but decided to go with traditional brick construction.
you can see the beginning here http://www.fornobravo.com/forum/f43/...oven-7739.html

we got some more work done this weekend.
cut the soldier course with the water cooled chop saw.
set the floor bricks, and set our soldier course for a trial run.

Just wondering (still learning the physics of this) won't it take a long time to heat up all that thermal mass? will it act like a heat sink?

          Joey,

From his other thread - he filled that thing with perlcrete (perlite + portland). His oven will be very well insulated underneath.

that is what I was wondering about, won't the perlcrete act like a heat sink and he will have to heat p up the entire thing before it will begin to release the heat back? = alot of wood

            maybe I am overthinking this?

if that is true then we will have to cut down more almond trees to feed the fire
there is 40 cubic feet of perlite in the bottom of the ball.

won't the perlcrete act like a heat sink
it will act as insulation and keep the heat reflecting back into the bricks.....same as the insulation in your house would work, the perlcrete should be faily light and airy when mixed properly,, I think if lined with just cement it would act like a heat wick and suck the heat away,,, the perlcrete helps keep the heat more where the fire and firebrick floor is...

My explanations arent always that good.... here is what wikipedia says

A heat sink (or heatsink) is an environment or object that absorbs and dissipates heat from another object using thermal contact (either direct or radiant). Heat sinks are used in a wide range of applications wherever efficient heat dissipation is required
The term thermal insulation can refer to materials used to reduce the rate of heat transfer, Thermal insulation is the method of preventing heat from escaping a container or from entering the container. In other words, thermal insulation can keep an enclosed area such as a building warm,
                Cheers

I are confused. What does that have to do with the enclosure? I don't get it.

That is going to be cool set up!

Now, you'll need a bunch of these to go with it.

It should be illegal for modernists to design outdoor furniture.
