  • Soldier angle cut

Just about to lay in the floor for my 36" Pompeii. I plan to do a internal floor with vertical soldiers. Two questions. 1. What angle to cut the tops of the soldiers? 2. With the internal floor my brick saw obviously cuts straight angles not curves, do i fill in with fireclay/sand/lime/portland mortar, just fireclay and sand or other? I guess the fireclay bog question is also relevent to the top of the dome as well where the guide pdf shows a fair bit of mortar between the bricks.
    Cheers

    1. What angle to cut the tops of the soldiers?
    1) Set brick upright on insulation, in position.
    2) Stretch string from center of floor to desired height of soldier.
    3) Mark string angle. Cut and repeat.

do i fill in with fireclay/sand/lime/portland mortar, just fireclay and sand or other?
I vote for filling that gap with wood ash.

"I vote for filling that gap with wood ash."

Or have the hearth bricks go under the soldiers.
