  • elliptical indispensable tool

I roughed out a quick I.T. that is capable of marking out a lower dome height than its radius.

The basic idea is that instead of pivoting on one axis, there are two points on the bar that can run in perpendicular axis. One vertically to measure the width and one horizontally for the height.

I haven't quite got the height right for the tool as it sits about an inch proud of the depth of a floor brick but I'm sure you get the idea.

So in theory this tool would be able to measure out various dome heights easily:

What you must be able to do (which I haven't as yet because my tool needs a bit of trimming down) is place the horizontal axis level with the finished floor height, which means building your dome before you lay the floor...

Any thoughts on what is a good dome height?
