  • Alternative insulation

I came up with a idea to use fiber glass insulation mixed with spec mix and fire clay to make my insulating layer instead of vermiculite it seamed to work does anyone see me having any problems with this thanks Jason

I would think Fiberglass mixed with clay would be fiber re-enforced clay. Fiberglass insolation works due to the air space it holds.

There's no reason not to use vermiculite/perlite concrete if you have the room for it. It's cheap, universally available, and heat proof.

Mixing fiberglass with clay is a really bad idea, as Mark has pointed out.

I would just buy the woven ceramic. I can buy it up here for less than $150 and it is enough for a 3" layer plus some for a 36" interior oven I built. The insulation is amazing. It makes a huge difference. Just google woven ceramic insulation in your area. Good luck.

Some fiberglass insulation will not stand up to the 1000 + F that the oven will reach.
